Matsuri (the Japanese word for “festival”) is a cross-continental musical partnership with Hub New Music, renowned shakuhachi player Kojiro Umezaki of the Silk Road Ensemble, and the composers of the Asia/America New Music Institute (AANMI). In a program featuring several new pieces commissioned for this project, HNM and Umezaki build dialogues between eastern and western musical traditions, while celebrating musical ancestry and intercultural community.
